USB Sony CyberShot Camera will not work

Hey everybody,

I was over my cousin's house the other night, and she asked me to help her get her Sony Cybershot Camera going. Now as I recall, when I plugged in a Camera into my computer, Windows recognized it, and placed it under "Imaging Devices" and "Removeable Storage" in my Computer. When I plugged the camera into her computer, Windows did not recognize it, or label it anything in Device Manager/My Computer.

I unplugged the camera, and installed the USB drivers via the Sony Cybershot PC, and I rebooted the PC. I plugged in the camera, and Windows recognized it. It said " Installing" and then it said "Finished" but it said something how installation has failed because a driver failed to have a driver funcion initialized" or something like that. After that, Sony DSC( I think thats what it's called) was flagged in Device Manager with a yellow ? mark.

I removed the flagged thing in the device manager, and rebooted the PC. When I got back into Windows, I went online and searched for a newer version of the driver. I think I found it. So I installed it, rebooted the PC, went back into Windows plugged it in, and samething happens.

I also reinstalled the driver with a better match that Windows found, but still same problem occurs. I am stumped on this one. Her USB printer works fine.

The most specs I can get you on the system is that this is a COMPAQ Presario, and runs Windows 2000. If you need more, I can try to get the specs for you guys some time later.

TIA,
Matt

The only way to fix that is a COMPLETE removal of the Sony drivers and supporting files, then a reinstall following Sony's procedure exactly. Read the procedure carefully, I'm guessing the camera must be powered up when you plug it in. There is still no guarantee.

Thanks for the reply. Will check it out. If not, I will call Sony for the proper instructions.
