Directx 9.0 Problems

How do i uninstall directx 9?
I recently installed medieval total war on my pc and got directx 9.0c.
Total war exits to the desktop or restarts the computer when I try to start a game. If I use opera to browse the web, the computer restarts.

Any sugestions?

System specs:
amd k6
392 megs ram
nvidia geforce 4 MX440

The ONLY way to uninstall it is system restore. It becomes part of the operating system and there is no conventional uninstall.

After several long hours of searching, I discovered the program "DirectX Happy Uninstall V1.2" which seems to have worked. I ran it and installed directx 8.1, now under dxdiag the version is reported as 8.1. I am still having problems with opera though, when I visit certain websites the computer crashes.

Any suggestions?

Update your Java to the latest version (1.4.2_06 I believe) and make sure you have Opera 7.54u1. These are both security critical updates.
