Need SP1 to install SATA drive.....
.....but my win xp pro is pre-sp1 version. So is there an SP1 or 2 that can be downloaded? If so, how do I go about installing WINxp on the sata drive with pre-sp1 XP? If it needs SP1 to be recognized?

You can integrate XP, SP1 and SP2 onto a single Bootable CD. The process is called slipstreaming, here are a couple of pages on it. Googling "Slipstream XP" will turn up dozens more pages to help you through it.
Good Luck! http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...slipstream.asp http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=295 |

You don't necessarily have to reinstall the O/S, as rightcoast's post implies.
You can download SP2 from Microsoft.com, or through windows update on your start menu.

You'll need access to another pc to do this....I highly recommend it. I did it for the first time and it only took me like 15-20 minutes from start to finish I read my guidehere
