Boot disk, BIOS fix
Hi, I am a newcomer, just "finished" my first build, and I have 2 problems. First of all, my setup is as follows: ASUS P5AD2-E premium, ATI Radeon x300 256MB, Intel 925XE chipset, Intel P4 LGA 775, 400W PSU, 2MB RAM (Kingston DDR2, 533MHz), Maxtor 80GB HDD, CD-ROM. Trying to load Windows XP Pro, but end up with an error message once the blue screen says "starting windows".
I have tried switching cables, HDDs, changing the boot order in BIOS and have been at it for about a week now with no positive results. I decided it might be the BIOS settings, and want to upgrade the BIOS. One issue is that the upgrade available from the ASUS site has the same version number that the one I have already, and the second issue is that the instructions that ASUS give with respect to making a boot floppy and putting the new BIOS on it don't work as the floppy disk gets full before I can load the new BIOS onto it. The website suggestion of doing a Format A:/s to remove the config.sys and autoexec.bat (presumably to make space on the boot floppy) doesn't work as the /s is not recognized. Any ideas are eagerly accepted. Thanks. KRD
