Re-installing XP SP2
I've had no luck trying to sort out the problems with my PC as as it won't even allow me a system restore I'm thinking of re-installing XP SP2. It was already installed when I bought the PC a couple of months ago so I'm not too sure how to go about it. Is it just a case of inserting the original disk & installing or are there any pitfalls I should look out for?

Nope... just insert and re-install.

As long as you chose repair and not format, and not the recovery console I can't think of anything that would go wrong. If you do want to format (you can just repair, without the format) make sure you have your data backed up, since you will lose it.

I've just read my Dell handbook which refers to PC restore by Symantec which will (hopefully) restore the PC to the state it was in when purchased so I think I'll give this a go unless there's a reason not to. Thanks for the replies.
