windows installer issues in XP
I just built a new machine, got XP running, now for some reason windows installer won't work. I can't install new software, windows update won't load... its an annoyance. Any advice (before a full out reinstall)?
System Specs: Athlon 64 2800+, 1gb of DDR 400 ram, 1 Seagate 40gig drive (os/apps), 1 Seagate 200gig drive (data, games, etc), 1 WD 40gig drive (mp3s/movies). |

Does this help?
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;315346 The exact error messages would help even more, just type them into Google. |

The only program that gives me an actual error code is iTunes. That's error code "1607:Unable to install install sheild scripting."
Its weird... certain programs install, others don't... the ones that don't usually just spit back an "unable to install" message without an error code. Thanx for the google idea, I'm gonna try that for the iTunes code ~eq |

ok... here's one of the non-descript messages I've been getting. I hope this helps..
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in Safe Mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." |
