How do you fdisk and format when installing XP?

I just got a new HD. So I just boot from cd rom. Use Xp's recovery console. Then fdisk then format?

Is that what you use? Recovery console?

You do not need to use the Recovery Console.

Set your BIOS to boot from CD, pop the XP installer CD in the drive and boot your machine.

When the installer asks if you want to install a new copy of XP, say yes (read the instructions and press the appropriate key).

XP will then show you all your HDD's and ask where you want to install XP. Since your HDD is fresh, you will be told you have to create a partition. Simply enter the size of the partition you want created for XP to install to and then in the next screen, choose the File System (NTFS is the best choice for XP and in my humble opinion, the only choice, save if you want to also install 98/ME and have them access the XP partitions).

After the installer has formatted the partition to the required File System, install will proceed.

Hope that helps.

What hard drive are you using? Is it a IDE HDD or a SATA HDD?

Is it recognized by the BIOS?
