Trying to look at User Profile settings freezes computer

I am running WinXP w/ SP2.

Whenever I click the "settings" button under "user profiles" in the "Advanced" tab of "properties" under a right-click on "my computer," the "properties" program freezes up (spinning hourglass) and I end up having to manually end the program.

It says rundll.exe is not responding and I must end it. When it's ending, it says "ending program Run DLL as Executable" or something like that.

This happens on all user accounts.

I do have administrative access.

I have successfully looked under "settings" for "user profiles" before, though it was at least a year ago.

This doesn't seem to be causing any other problems, and I can't even remember what you can do under the "user profiles" stuff. But this definitely shouldn't be happening.

Any help you can offer will be appreciated.

Of course I should have mentioned that I've gone through that site and haven't found anything relevant to my problem.

I did a search for "user profiles," "user profiles settings," user profiles rundll", and "user profiles run dll", and found no relevant articles.

Okay, sorry, I think the problem is solved.

I deleted temporary internet files, and now the user-profiles settings button works. I don't know why temporary internet files cause so many problems like this.

Anyway, thanks...

It's because of the IE integration into Windows. You might want to set IE to delete the temporary internet files automatically on close.

Okay, so this is wierd. That box (to empty temporary internet files when browser is closed) is *already checked.*

So why the heck did hitting the "delete temporary internet files" button fix my problem w/ the "user profiles settings" button?

Maybe it was just a coincidence... Doubtful though.

On Edit: So I was wrong--the problem is *not* solved. Immediately after that first time I hit the "delete temporary internet files" button, I *was* able to look at the user profiles settings. But it seems that was a fluke--I am now no longer able to do so, whether or not I've hit the "delete temporary internet files" button. And anyway, as I indicated, I've got the browser set to empty temporary internet files when I close the browser in any case.

When you manually deleted them, did you check the box to delete offline content too?
