bootup of XP home versus Pro

I have XP home on a desktop PC and XP Pro on a laptop. Granted the laptop has a faster processor however they both have 512mb memory. I found that XP Pro boots up much faster than XP home. Has anyone compared the bootup with these 2 operating systems on comparable PCs?

I doubt it's the difference between Home and Pro - it's most likely the difference between what's running on startup and what kind of networking you are doing.

I agree... the base of the OS is identical. Pro has some networking and security features that Home doesn't, and the ability to run dually processors... all of which are probably just differences in the registries... but nothing to make it boot faster.

The laptop is wireless and the desktop is directly connected to a modem/router. Could that make a substantial difference?

I don't know how substantial, but it will take longer with wireless as it negotiates the connection.

Since in my case the wireless is much faster I think that you answered my question. There must be something running on startup on the XP home machine. In addition to looking at the startup tab in menu (which I have cleared of all programs) where else would I find programs that run at startup?

my comp is xp pro and wife's is home, haven't timed them but with simular programs(only AV and firewall) running at startup i notice no difference, also you might (if you haven't already) go to the black viper site and disable the programs he recommends.
