cannot delete folders - access denied
Hi there, had some problems posting this so if this is a repeat post please delete it...thanks, wb
this is going to take some explaining but i'll try to keep it brief 2 systems, sys1 uses XPSP1 (1 hard drive - c: ), sys2 uses XPSP2 (2 hard drives - c: & d: ) i wanted to transfer the contents of sys2 d:\my stuff to sys1 c:\Documents and Settings\User\My Music. i'm not networked so figured the quickest way to do this would be to take sys2 'd' drive and put it in sys1 so i could copy n paste folders across. but something went wrong when you look in the destination folder all the folders i copied across are apparently empty. I cannot open the folders because xp says access is denied. I cannot delete the folders for the same reason (not even at the cmd prompt). The properties for the folders also say there are empty. therein lies a problem because sys1 disk management system thinks the hard drive has been filled. how can i delete folders which are apparently empty and useless, but which xp thinks are full and wont give me access to??? cheers folks wb |

Look at the file properties > security tab. An admin account need not necessarily have the permissions necessary to delete the files; you should make sure that the admin does have the rights. If needed you will need to take over ownership of the folder as an administrator. This shows you how: http://support.microsoft.com/default...308421&sd=tech

@ statica
brilliant link and advice thanks mate...problem is now sorted, with a bit of trial and error have managed to apply permissions to access and play the contents of the folders rather than deleting them thanks again wb
