Installing Windows 2000 Hard Disk on another PC
Have partitioned a 10GB hard disk and installed W2K +SP4 that I want to install on a customer’s replacement PC. I thought I could just remove his HD, install mine, and he would have a new W2K system without any hassle.
Just to make sure before going on site, I tried this new HD in another PC and hit the “NTLDR is Missing” error. Is there a way that I could get this W2K HD running on another PC without having to reinstall W2K again when I come to install the HD on the new system?

No it is different. I've been told that I should install the HD on the new system, boot to the W2K CD and run the repair utility.

I have tested the boot W2K CD ROM solution on a spare PC at home before going off on site.
All went well until I requested the first INSTALL. Setup displayed the partitioned HD correctly but informed me that there was no OS on the HD. I then tried the REPAIR option with the same result. So as you might have concluded the only real solution is to reinstall W2K on the customer's PC. |
