i upgraded my pc with a wd 80 gb harddrive. after installation
when i start my pc on the first page it shows my cdrom and dvd

it then says that ultra100 bios not detected no drives attached.
after the reboot, i click my pc icon and it just shows my A and
C drive. neither my cd or dvd drives work. i have tried to
download the updates for the drives with no luck. CAN ANYONE

Can you post the full system specifications of your computer, it's possible that the drive is not supported by the BIOS.

did you install a new pci ata100 controller card? If yes please go to bios and set boot option to scsi then save and exit.

Welcome to PC Mechanic !!

Is this a second drive? or is it replacing the original drive? Are you using the 80wire ribbon that came with the drive? Did you partition and format the drive? Is it enabled in the BIOS? Can the BIOS see the drive?

I can guess what you did (and all I can do is guess when you provide no system details). You put a Western Digital drive on the cable - as the ONLY drive on the cable - and jumpered it to Master. This will NOT work. You must use either Cable Select or remove the jumper. Master on a WD is ONLY when there is a slave present.
