Slower over Time

It dosnt matter how good you keep things cleaned up and
defraged, ect. It seems that after awhile the computer gets
slower and slower on everything you try to run.Has anyone ever
figured out one thing that causes this like programs left in
registry, missing file parts, ect.I know that if you do a reinstall
everything is fast again.Did a search and didnt find anything
here on the subject.Maybe it been asked before but that what
I am asking and thanks for any answers.

I have always likened Windows to a scruffy teenager, whenever it finishes with something it just drops it there and then, because of this I use a registry cleaner, an uneccessary file cleaner and regular defrags and I find my machines all run relatively smoothly and quickly.

Try using easycleaner from toniarts you can get it here http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/R...yCleaner.shtml.
Use the registry cleaner and the unecessary file cleaner but leave the duplicate file cleaner alone, I have seen that one remove system files and render a machine unusable.

Sounds like the cleaning up the Registry angle has been pretty well covered here already, so you should be in good shape there by now.

It's also true, especially in the Win9x world, that you might be having just a few too many processes running in the background of your computer. There are some excellent background articles on this issue [I haven't looked in a bit, but we do have many fine articles here on the PC Mech instruction pages --> begin at the homepage]. For system slowing specifically due to trouble with "System Resources", check out the articles at pacs-portal http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm under "StartUp Tips", and over at the Windows Support site at aumha.org http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/resource.htm

One of the biggest causes for extreme system slowing can also be viruses and spyware running in the background - so you'll want to make sure you scan for pests. And be sure to keep the system up-to-date with the Security patches at Windows Update.

Keep in mind, too, that adding recent, large, demanding programs that require more horsepower can simply be asking too much of an older system. This is especially true if you try to run several of these programs at once! Win9x is really not quite as good at that as are WinNT/2000/XP.

Strangely enough, some of the best malware-protection programs (like Norton AntiVirus 2005 or ZoneAlarm firewall) which run very nicely under Windows XP, can bring a Win9x system to its knees. Let us know if you are running these on an older machine, and perhaps we can find a less-demanding program.

Thanks for all the help, gives me plenty to think about.
I was not talking about anyone machine in general.Just
something that I notice over time on slowing.I have some
leads now to check to see in the future instead of starting
over.

Reboot your machine periodically too. I left mine running 24/7, but scheduled it to reboot every morning at 7AM.
