Boom Problems with XP Install (Home Edition SP2)

I have just put together a Computer and I am trying to Install XP, but I am having a problem. I put XP CD in and start to boot. I get as far as the contract where I press f8. Then it takes a few minutes and says to insert a Windows CD into the CD ROM when the XP disk is already in there. I have even tried ejecting it and then putting the CD back in and I still get same problem. I have also tried to install it on another Computer with a Clean Hard Drive and I get to the same point. Im beginning to think its the XP CD. Any suggestions?

Give us your computer specs and check to see that you have your IDE cables connected correctly for master/slave, if you have more than one HDD setup.

Welcome to PC Mech.
If you are having the same problem with the same disk in two separate machines then I think you can safely assume the CD is goosed.
Have you got a 98 or Me or whatever disk that you can just test the first machine with?, see if it will install that OS.

If it's an upgrade CD, it's asking you to put a CD in which contains a previous version of Windows - to make sure you qualify for the upgrade.

Good point. Only USB keyboards and mice are "permitted", anything else should be installed after Windows is running.
