set dail up on timer...?
Can you please tell me if this is possible to do.... Leave my computer switched on with my outlook express programme running, then some how set the modem dial up , to dial my ISP at a specific time when the computer connects it would then send / receive all my e.mails putting them on the outlook express programme to be view later, then the dial up connection would stop at a specific time , leaving the computer running..?
I am running Windows 98, The reason I have to do this is that here in Thailand its now not so easy due to all the problems , to log on to the internet during the day time, I can only seem to log on at 5 am in the morning, and getting up at this time is not so great ... Thanks..... |

A bit of a long shot/guess but why not set outlook to look for emails every 240 minutes (4 hours) then set it to connect to the internet if not connected, set it to disconnect after downloading emails and then set your dial up to automatic BUT set your dial up attempts to about three only before stopping dialing up. You will have to configure the 240 minutes to 180 minutes or 300 minutes or whatever coincides with 5.00am.
Just a thought.

I have just looked and the longest time interval you can set outlook express to look for emails for you is 480 minutes which is 8 hours, now if you start outlook express at exactly 1.00pm and set it to look for emails every 480 minutes and also set it to connect to the internet automatically, make sure your username and password are set in your dial up connection, then all things being equal your outlook express will connect to the internet every 8 hours and look for emails for you. Hopefully it will connect at just about 1.00pm, 9.00pm and 5.00am
