Why can I no longer sort my start menu programs?

Hello.

I'm using Win XP home, service pack 2. I used to be able to right click on the list of programs that pop up when I click on the start menu and sort them by name or whatever, but I can't do so anymore. When I go Start --> All Programs, then right click on the list, I get a slight flash on the screen, and that's it. I can't think of any programs I've downloaded in the last two weeks, or installed, so I'm a bit baffled. If anyone can help me figure this out, I'd be grateful.

Thanks,

Chris

OK, before doing this make sure all of your spyware/malware,av utilities are up to date and then scan your system for spyware/malware and virii. Then do the following:

Caution: I always warn about backing up the registry before modifications are made. That advice is especially true before using this tweak.

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder

Right click MenuOrder in the left pane, click Permissions... then click Advanced button
Remove the checkmark from the "Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here" entry.
In the Security dialog box that opens, click Copy and you'll be taken back to the Advanced Security Settings for MenuOrder window. Click OK and you'll return to the Permissions for MenuOrder window.
Clear the checkmark next to Full Control in both your account and all security groups where you are a member.
Do not change the Read permission.

Exit Registry and Reboot

If you're afraid of using this method maybe someone else has an easier way .
