windows installer randomly appers

Has anyone ever had the problem where windows installer pops up when you click on programs. It does not seem to be just related to microsoft products either. For instance, today I double click spyware blaster and windows installer popped up and asekd me to wait while it configures. Does anyone know what would cause this or how to fix this problem?

Thanks

Do you actually get into the program, or does the Installer just pop up?

Try running Spybot and AdAware if you can.

Yeah the program appears if i cancel or if i let the windows installer finish.

Have checed for spyware/viruses on this computer with:

Ad-aware
Spybot
Spyware Blaster
Trend Micro Anti-virus

I have also cleared the temp and prefetch files in the case that this might be coming from there. System restore is also disabled.

its odd though the computer will sometimes work fine and the installer seems completely random. Sometimes it shows up and sometimes it does not and it seems to choose randomly when to run (sometime when i click on word, sometime when i click on non-microsoft products)
