XP first installation
First :I just build my first pc et and so far not to many problem. When I first try to format drive c : with command format c:/s with the boot disk in drive A, I experience the following problem : « not enough memory »(I’m having 2x512k ?). Instead I tried format c : and it work. Is there a problem doing so ? XP is now installed.
Second : When I installed XP it says the following warning : « your’re about to install the XP on the same partition of an other program you may have conflict in the future » something like that. Is there a problem doing so ?. During XP installation it ask me « do you want to create new partition » type « C ». I try that and it did not work ? Thanks pjibe |

Did you format using a boot disk? All you have to do is insert the Windows CD and format and partition from the Windows installation.

Yes, I format from a boot disk. As I understand that’s probably my mistake. I dont have anything on my c : except windows so I can reformat no prob. So do you suggest me to repartition et reformat c : from the Window cd ?. If so, do I have to go open special program from the cd or do I follow the installation instruction (reinstall in fact) that automaticly pop up when you insert th cd. Remember at first installation I tried to make a new partition from installation request and did not work.
Thanks a lot Pjibe |

With XP it can all be handled by the CD. This includes partitioning, choosing file system and formating.

Can I remake the partition with XP already install on the system ? or how can I be sure that my actual partition is ok ?
My concern is because when I first partition the C : I chose only the principal DOS partition. After when I first install XP it says the following warning : «Installing two operating system on the same partition can conduct to conflics» or something like that. pjibe |

Boot with the CD, go into setup, when it asks where to install XP, start removing existing partitions till you have nothing but unallocated space left. Install there, it will then allow you to create a new partition and format it.
