Delete Hibernation file after RAM upgrade?

Hi all, hope someone can help.

I'm about to add some extra RAM to my father-in-law's Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop. I downloaded the manual to be extra careful and found the instructions on how to add the chips, etc. However, underneath all that were instructions to delete the hibernation files, which it said must be done after installing (or removing) RAM modules.

The manual was obviously written pre-XP because to do this it advises restarting in DOS mode before running an exe file (HALLOC.EXE) that takes care of it.

Do I still need to delete the hibernation files under XP and if so how, because I don't have the option to restart in DOS and I don't think the exe file is on the C Drive anymore anyway (chances are the laptop had its hard drive formatted when XP was loaded on)

Thanks in advance,
Danny

PS - The laptop is currently running XP with only 64MB of internal memory. I'm surprised the thing even boots up!!

I wouldn't worry about it at all even if the pc is using hibernation.

Thanks for that super-quick response, I was hoping someone would say that.

I've never heard of it before, but thought it best to check.

Now all I have to worry about is that I bought the right kind of memory!

Cheers again,
Danny

What you should do is disable hibernation, install the ram, then re-enable hibernation so it can properly resize the hibernation file. It needs to be equal in size to the amount of installed ram less any ram reserved for onboard video.
