NTFS won't work. Windows 98 can't see the disk if it is.
So your stuck with FAT32 if you insist on 98. I'm sure you've heard this before, but for what it's worth, I recommend upgrading. Good Luck

Why are you using Maxblast to format the drive? Use FORMAT with a Win98 bootdisk or boot with the CD.

If you want NTFS you'll have t upgrade to 2000 or XP, My suggestion would be XP. It's the newest OS.

. . . just curious, were you looking to build a "multi-boot" system? (where you choose which OS to start from a menu) . . . If so, you'd want to read up on that = there's a good article on multibooting in the OS articles area here http://www.pcmech.com/show/os/334/ --- that article is a little dated (about two years old or so), but it covers the basics.
XP will run on either FAT32 or NTFS. NTFS has advantages, especially for security and for large (>64gb) hard drives. NTFS is also the native file system for XP. A multiboot system can have both (FAT32 for Win98, NTFS for XP), but Win98 won't be able to access anything on the NTFS partition (it won't even know it's there). XP can access the whole works. On systems with processors faster than 2ghz, Win98se can experience some timing issues that require a patch. And HyperThreading doesn't happen in Win98. . . . just a few things to think about . . .
