Slow Load Up
When windows xp starts up, it goes real slow up to like 5 minutes. I have done virus scans and spyware scans. Internet explorer goes slow, but download speeds are up where they are suppose to be. What is the problem and what can I do?

Open a command prompt, type chkdsk /r - and reboot. This may be a symptom of a failing hard drive - follow up the chkdsk with manufacturer's hard drive diagnostics if it found any errors.

Could be anything from excessive startup items to malware items your scanners aren't detecting, or you are trying to run XP on substandard hardware.

It is a Gateway built pc and makes the specs for windows xp
P4@1.8ghz 768mb ram 80gb hd windows xp home geforce graphics card(not sure which one) But I have ran adaware, the Micrsoft spyware remover, avg anti virus , and norton av. Every time I start up the spyware removers, they detect like 40 new things even if i just rebooted right after a scan. Most turn out to be trackers though. |
