Error loading OS Please Help!

Yesterday I installed an 80gig hard drive and configured it for storage only. The computer worked fine all day and all night, I turned it on this morning and it would not complete bootup. It gets as far as "verifying DMI pool data" and then it shows "Error loading OS". I tried the F8 key to see if I could go into safe mode but nothing happens. I would very much appreciate any help anyone could give me with this problem. Thanks in advance roho

Thanks Snooker for your timely responce. You pointed me to some very useful info I'm sure I will need access to, while I was waiting I disconnected the 80gig hard drive I had installed for storage and the computer started booting, it asked me to go into bios and reset the cpu speed. I went into bios and the cpu speed looked correct,so i saved and exited and windows booted up just fine. Every thing seems to be working Ok now. What do you think might have caused this and do you think the same thing will happen again if I reconnect the other hard drive. Agian thank you very much for your assistance roho

Check your exact boot order - there are a lot of bios setups that you can set the order of hard drives. I'm guessing that it was trying to boot from the new drive.

You may also have a drive jumpering and cable issue. Almost all newer machines use 80 wire Ultra ATA cables, which are designed to be used with Cable Select hard drive jumpering, the position of the drive on the cable determines master and slave.

Make sure the 80 gig drive is jumpered properly, securly plugged in, etc. If it does not work when you plug it in again try it in another computer, if possible. Also make sure the cable is not damaged, and no pins in any of the plugs are bent.

Due to all of the good ideas and advise all you friendly people sent my way, I finally found my problem. It turned out to be a bios problem, it was trying to boot from HDD1 rather than HDD0, once I set it to boot from HDD0 it booted fine and also recognized my new hard drive, everything is OK now. thanks very much everyone roho
