XP Install Problems

Hi there, this has been an ongoing isssue with my second machine. I decided to start this post because the last post was starting to get off topic a bit, here it is:

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=120551

Ok, so I did the zero fill that that was suggested, then did the XP install...this time it got further then it ever has before, but it stopped at the "registering components" part with this error:

(Advanced INF Installer)

"Error getting procedure address"

any idea what has happened? Thank you all so much for the help, you people have been great!

I just reviewed your other thread - and you should have kept it going. However, I'll add my comments here, and please do not get offended.

You have old hardware, and some of it is of questionable long term reliability. FIC motherboards were somewhat unstable when they were new, and component aging isn't helping it at all. I would try to find the latest bios flash for the board and flash it. I would test your ram thoroughly with Memtest86+, and possibly try some different modules, the ones you have may not have fully compatible characteristics with that motherboard. I would question the cache integrity in a K6-2, especially if it has ever been overheated. I would get rid of that L&C power supply, those are made by Deer and are a fire waiting to happen - if the fan in it was dead, it's been overheated and cannot be trusted. The controller on that old 6 gig hard drive could be getting flaky. The CD drive could be getting tired and misreading the disks. Your IDE cables could be falling apart.

I don't know exactly what is wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue of some sort. All you can really do is start swapping stuff if you have more old parts laying around.

lol...ok thank you. Geez everyone thinks I'm a big fat jerk, I really don't get offended that easy, I think everyone over reacted...including myself. Anyways I did keep going with the install and it works...but very very slowly. Thank you for your help with this problem, I think I might just throw this stuff out, it was really just for fun.

Cheers
