Login Problems With XP Pro
Very strange (and extremely frustrating) problem occurred.
A friends computer was assigned to a domain with a login name and password. He left the company and took the PC with him. He now wants to create a network at home between 3 PC's, but due to it belonging to the domain it would not allow a network to be created. Called his previous company to ascertain how to "de-register" domain and was told to rightclick My Computer, Properties and change from domain to workgroup which he duly did (calling it Workgroup). He then proceeded to use Network Setup Wizard to set up a network and once completed restarted the machine. On Startup it prompted for a user name and password. The old one that he used does not work and he cannot now log into his PC. Tried using the Workgroup name, PC name etc, nothing worked. How can I fix this for him? |

So basically he does not have a valid password for logging into the computer. The way to change the password is to log in as an administrator account. At the login screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice, and youshould come to a traditional login box, enter Administrator for the username and the password. If the password hasn't been set it is a blank password. Once there, go to the control panel > User accounts > and change the passwords on the other users.
If you do not have the admin. password, call the company back and ask them for it. If they do not have the password, then the only thing is to wipe out XP and start all over. Moderator note: This site, cannot give you information on how to bypass security - how to backdoor your way into the system without knowing a set password; especially because we don't know how the information is going to be used. Thanks for understanding |

Thanks Statica
Unfortunately Admin does not work either and the company does not know the Admin password as it was always his PC. He does not know the password for Admin and is sure that there never was one. Understood about the backdooring of the PC. Only stands to reason. |

Thanx for the followup and understanding the reason for the rule.
Your only legal recourse is to do a fresh install of XP. I'll lock this one up then. Cheers. |
