Directx update affects tv card?

I've had a PCTV PRO TV card working on my Athlon 1800+ for years. I recently updated to directx 9.0c and since then have a/v synch problems, and freezes of both the tv view function and then the desktop after that. I went to the microsoft site, and they admit there is a "filter" problem that affects clocking, and they provide a fix for XP users. I run W98SE. Am I just out of luck? I removed the tv card software and re-installed....no change. Anybody else have these symptoms? Posting at the Pinnacle (tv card mfr) site is a waste of time; almost no support at all.

You are out of luck unless Pinnacle has updated drivers for the card or you can find a reliable utility to uninstall DirectX and reinstall an older version.

directx uninstall

I would like to try a directx uninstall. I found an old version 9.0a on a game cd. That version did work. I didn't see directx in windows "uninstall programs" nor in "windows component" subheadings uninstall. DXDIAG lists all its directx files. Would I be looking for trouble if I just deleted them all? Is there another way to do this?

DirectX cannot be uninstalled or deleted by any conventional means. It's part of the operating system, and 98SE does not have a system restore. There are some 3rd party tools out there that claim to be able to uninstall it, but I can't recommend any particular one.

Microsoft DOES warn you that once installed, it cannot be uninstalled.
