Wassup guys,

I need to reformat and reinstall Windows XP b/c my computer has too much spyware and popups. It's been runinning VERY slow lately so I need to reformat my HD. Please let me know what programs that I should use so I can COMPLETELY wipe out my HD. If you have any info, please let me know!

if it is a custom build you can format it with the xp cd, that will probably be sufficent.just change first boot to cdrom in bios, pop in the xp cd and follow inst. if you want to lo-level format (not actually but they call it that) most HD mfg. have a program on their site you can dl to a floppy and run. you might tell us what computer you have , it would vary on some pc's ( recovery disk or oem etc.)

I have an HP Pavilion 762c

I did this a little while ago and a few experts on here told me to DL a couple programs. (I forget the name of them)

I thought one was call killdisk or something similar to that. If you have any ideas, please let me know. (I tried reformating 3 days ago using the XP CD-Rom, but the popups and spyware is BACK!)

If you have any clue how to stop this please let me know!

1 luv,
Are you going to reformat every 3 day to get rid of spyware? There is enough software out there to completely rid your computer of spyware.

Run adaware, spybot search and destroy, update windows xp to sp2 and use the pop up blocker, keep your virus protection up to date and do regular virus scans. No need to keep reformatting.

Good idea!

Load the XP disk into the CD ROM drive. Reboot, go into Setup (BIOS) set the CD ROM as the first boot device. It'll boot to the XP CD, you have several options. I recommend a format using the NTFS file system. From there just follow the onscreen prompts to install XP. Install the other programs and update xp to sp2 as suggested. The pop up blocker works well for me. I also have webroot spysweeper, which I highly recommend. I hardly ever use adaware or spybot anymore.
