XP pro install stops after first reboot and starts over at beginning

i just built a brand new computer and i'm having trouble installing windows xp pro on it. i have updated bios and then tried to install xp. the computer reacts very slowly when i first put the cd in, it takes about 5 minutes for it to go from the motherboard's screen to beginning to set up off the cd. it goes through loading the basic setup files, partitioning the hard drive, and then installing the first bit. then on the first reboot it normally goes into a prettier looking windows format where you can click on things instead of just using the keyboard, however on this computer it doesnt reboot instantly and continue but instead goes back to the motherboard screen and takes 5 more minutes for the cd to start going again... then it starts installing windows from the beginning over again. i've tried going through it again after that but when i get to the part where it asks what partition i want to install on it tells me i cant install on that one because it already has an operating system on it. i tried formating the partition and then installing windows again but the whole mess just keeps cycling over again. it wont go into the second part of the installation after that first reboot no matter what.

.....any help would be great. i have no idea what to do with it, right now my new computer is just a paper weight and my old computer is fading fast.
