system shutdown after att isp installed??

this has occurred five times-each time att-isp is installed on a computer:

after connecting: i get the following message with a red "x": system shutting down: lass.exe file in windows system32....rpc issue......

is this the "sasser: worm--why do i get it automatically (with win xp) each time att isp software is installed?

tried setting 'RPC services (both) properties to "take no action"--didnt help.

tx

That sure does sound like the old sasser virus, here is a link to the removal tool available from Symantec.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html
If need be download it to another machine, and put it on a floppy, then run it from the floppy in the infected machine.
