Unhappy XP - freeze problem

I don't know what is causing this to happen, that's why I'm posting.

Every now and then a program will freeze...for example, WMP10, or IE. When it does (wmp) the music will continue to play...but the window will turn white if I go over it with another window. I can still minimize, maximize, stretch the size, etc, etc...when I try to end task it lets me, and brings up the "do you want to send error report" message....but it's still there, it never closes. After this other programs slowly start to freeze up. Sometimes I can't even restart my computer.

*I run windows blinds...thought that might be causing the problem. I uninstalled it and the same thing happend.

I have service pack 2
I have my HD defraged
I have no viruses
I have no spyware
I have no adware

I have no clue what is wrong, lol
Please help.

well, I have herd of this problem before. If you are able to back up all of your files. I would suggest reformatting your OS. Other than that, i have not heard of any remedies.

Not how we want things suggested here. That is last resort, only remedies that don't involve a nuke and pave solicited.

it started about a week or two ago...and as for programs, I'm not sure. I don't get new programs that often, and if there was anything I installed it is uninstalled now.

Do you have a restore point from before all this started?
Back up anything you might need and turn back the clock.

I agree, if there is a restore point, that will probly be the best thing to do.

You could try doing a repair install with you Windows XP disk.

There will be a problem with WMP10.
EzyStvy posted this link for webbie earlier today : http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;889288
It's a work around to use with the repair install.
