When going to use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard to transfer information from an older computer to a new network computer I was prompted to select a transfer method. When looking at the list I see "Home or small office network, A network is the best way to transfer large amounts of data", however it is not selectable. I am on a small home wireless network, and I am able to see both computers under My Network Places and workgroup computers. Is there any way that I could change some settings so that this option is avalible? Thank you all for your help.

I have a recommendation for using the wizard - delete temporary files etc, I ran the wizard on a machine which never had the temporary files cleared and it took three hours to finish (didn't help that it was a slow machine).

RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods: • Click the Other option in the the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard so you can place the files and settings on a computer on the network that both computers can connect to. • Change the subnet for one of the computers so that both computers use the same subnet. How do I change the subnet for one of the computers? Last edited by Zac3010; 01-24-2005 at 07:44 PM. |

Open a command prompt on both computers, type IPCONFIG and post the IP address and subnet mask for both. If more than one connection is shown, use the one that you are trying to use.

Then it's not a subnet issue.
