OK...I have a P4 2.8C HT that I'll be starting from scratch on.
My question...should I install XP Pro or Win 2003 server? I have 4 PCs on my network and an additional 3 that just crunch for SETI. I don't have much experience with Win 2003 and am also wondering what the big difference is... Thanks in advance HF |

The real question is are you serving anything from your network? If you just want a networked PC, an XP pro is the way to go; if you are serving out any data then Windows Server 2003 is what you need. The 2 OS' are mutually exclusive .. comparing it would be like comparing apples to cars. Here's an overview of Windows Server 2k3: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...s/default.mspx

Thanks STAT, that helps a lot...I'm not really serving out anything. My router takes care of the broadband. Besides that I just have a printer that I share. I guess I'll stick to XP Pro.
Thanks for the info...this place is great. |

The main difference are that Server is about $300 more than XP and doesn't even come with Spider Solitaire.
