XP Install on Reformatted Partition

I am running XP Home that I purchased to upgrade a 98 system. However, I have so much stuff on the drive that it is bogging down. Rather that trying to one by one remove things, I would like to format the c: drive and reinstall XP, and then the programs I need. Any special warnings or precautions before doing so?

Check that you have all the updated drivers for your MOBO and hardware especially the modem or network adapter driver.
Use the files and settings transfer wizard and save it to a removable media.
