Taskbar Size

My buddie tells me that the taskbar at the bottom of his computer, that is running XP Pro , is nearly 2 inches thick. I told him to just grab the top line of the bar with the mouse and drag it down. He said that doesn't work. I plan on going to his house over the weekend, and fix it for him. Is there something else I could try just in case I can't get the taskbar back to about half inch by doing what I explained to him above ?

Remember to right click on the taskbar and "UNlock" the taskbar before dragging. Locking the taskbar will prevent it from being resized.

I just came from my buddies house. Unlocking the task bar did nothing. I could drag the taskbar up to almost the middle of the screen, but when I tried dragging it down, the next step after the one inch size, was that it dissappeared. However if I removed the "quich launch icons" from the left side of the taskbar, the taskbar automatically shrunk down to about one half inch size. He could live with that, now however, when we move the mouse over the icons that are down in the taskbar on the right side, there are no popups that say volume, date, avg virus etc. again, no big deal, unless someone has another suggestion.
