How can I get rid of...
Everytime I boot my PC I get this message:
"Action Manager The scanner is designed to the latest parallel port specifictions, however, becasue there is no single set of parallel port standard in the computer field, there are some parallel port or multi I/O adapters, parallel port peripherals, and software dongles that are not fully compatible with the scanner's EPP interface and may cause unpredictable results (e.g., error message: Program was unable to find the scanner) when used on the same parallel port conneciton as the scanner's EPP interface. If you are experiencing problems with your scanner's EP interface, or if you want to connect other parallel prot deveices, it would be best to add another parallel prot to your computer. (Please contact your computer dealer to purchase a card)." I have now removed physically the scanner as I don't need it on this machine. I check the devices setup but cannot see any scanner connected to the PC. I guess it is picking up a driver that had been installed when I set up XP. Does anyone know how to get rid of this message, thanks in advance. Also another thing happening this time with my keyboard. When I enter the character "@" using the key i get double apostrophe, and when I hit the """ i get the "@". I can reverse by hitting the ALT + SHIFT key but after a while it always reverses. Many thanks JC |

Have you checked for any installed programs in Control Panel> Scanners and Cameras ?
Also, while in Control Panel, you should go into Keyboard and make sure your's is working properly and look in Regional and Language and make sure everything is at default settings for US English. If that's fine try just pressing ALT, without holding the shift key, and see what happens. Also, if you haven't shaken the dust out of the keyboard for the last few months it would be a good idea to do that now. Just turn off the comp at the power switch in back, disconnect the keyboard and run the curtain cleaning attachment from the vacum cleaner over it a few times after you've given it a good shake or two.

Hi Pam123, yes I have checked the control panel>scanners and cameras and nothing is showing. Regarding the keyboard I have also checked the Regional and Language option and it is setup on English (UK) - we actually have the same problem at work-
I don't think that it has to do anything with cleaning the keyboard. Thanks anyway JC

I skipped right over the UK initials, my bad.
How did you remove the drivers for the scanner? Scroll down this page till you get to event logging : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...nmsi.mspx#EEAA Since the Installer is making the error it may point us in the right direction. As for your keyboard, and the ones at the office, read through this : http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;258826 and then see if the drivers help : http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mo.../Download.mspx I'm assuming you all have Microsoft keyboards. |

Hi Pam123, this morning I went to the "Add or remove Program" in the control panel and remove my scanner program. Rebooted the PC but now I am getting this 2 messages:
C:\Scanner\exe16\am.exe Windows cannot find "C:\Scanner\exe16\am.exe". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and the click Search. Desktop Could not load or urn “C:\Scanner\exe16\am.exe” specified in the registry. Make usre the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry. During the process of deleting the file I was told that some of the DLL files could be used by other apps so I did not delete them just in case. If i understand well for the 2nd message I am going to modify the Registry file (I am not too confident with that ).If you think of anything please let me know, thanks JC |

OK I have now sorted the problem out. I went to the registry file (my first time...) and deleted the following line "C:\Scanner\exe16\am.exe" (my hands were sweating slightly, I wonder why...) and I rebooted the pc and
no more error message. I will need to read more about editing the Registry and backing it up as well, I can't see the Backup option in JC |

I didn't realize you hadn't uninstalled the drivers.
Instructions on how to backup and edit the registry are here : http://windowsxp.mvps.org/registry.htm Also very useful is a registry cleaner. I've had good luck with this one : http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html Glad you got everything sorted. Any luck with the keyboard problem? Last edited by pam123; 01-29-2005 at 11:26 AM. |

Not so far, i have investigated the problem properly so far. It is strange because like I have said we have got the same problem at work. I think it could be down to the language installed on the computer, in my case at home I have English, Spanish and French running with my Office 2000 apps.
Let you know if I come with anything, thanks again JC
