XP will not recognize 2nd hard drive??
I have XP Pro on my comp. I am trying to fix a friends computer but having no luck. What I want to do is put his hard drive in my comp to back up his data before I format. Problem is that when I go into MY COMPUTER it only shows my hard drive but in DEVICE MANAGER it shows both. Did some searching and realized that his hard drive is Fat32 not NTFS.
OK, tried to convert but I cant get a drive letter for the Fat32 h/d. How can I see this drive on my comp. Hope someone can help and this is not to confusing to understand Thanks |

XpP will recognize the FAT32 file system with no problem, it's more likely to be a IDE cable or jumpering problem.
What IDE cable are you using 80wire or 40wire and how do you have the jumpers on the hard drives set??

I have tried both 40 and 80 wire cable. The hard drives are set up as such:
My comp hard drive is a Sata drive Hard drive trying to fix is on ide master. Tried on slave as well with no luck. One other thing, I went into fdisk to see the partition of the "fix" drive and it says it is non-dos. Shouldn't it say fat32. |

What does Disk Management say about it? You may just have to "import" it as it's a "foreign" drive.
