How to change the settings of "All Users" ?

Hello,

I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2, and I don't use the welcome screen, so I get this Win2K-like logon box.

At this point no user profile has been loaded yet, so it appears in the Windows XP Luna style, with the german qwertz layout (I guess it's the all users settings or something like that).

I want neither of them, but all changes that I perform in my account, or the standard administrator account (btw, my account is an admin account as well), only affect the respective profile.

But how can I change the settings that apply for the logon box ?

RJ

umm not sure what you're saying. If you mean you want a nicer logon screen instead you go control panel - User Accounts - Change the Way a User Logs on Or Off and check "Use the welcome screen"

I don't think thats what you mean, I didn't really understand your question

What I want is this to look like this (see the different style. . the buttons, the edges, the title bar), and I want to choose a different keyboard layout, too.

But whatever I change in my account is limited to that account. I do have the classic view and the Dvorak keyboard layout set in my account, but they only get loaded after I log on. I want them to apply for that logon box, too.

I think maybe this is what you're talking about http://www.theeldergeek.com/windows_classic.htm. Look at the bottom of the page also for further tweaks.

Sorry, didn't work.

Anyways, I was able to change the keyboard layout, my mouse pointer, and the wallpaper.

Only this Luna look is very stubborn, I haven't managed to deactivate yet

RJ, I think I have what you're looking for try this one. Click Start>Control Panel>User Accoounts. Now when in User Accounts under Pick Task, click on Change the way users log on and off. Then you'll come to a window asking how you want to logon and off, make sure Use the Welcome Screen is unchecked. Then click apply options close User Accounts, and reboot. Let me know how it turned out.

Hi,

It is already unchecked (I mentioned that in my first post )

If the welcome screen was checked, it wouldn't look like this, but that is what I get.
The box itself is fine, just the style is not. I just wanna change the style, like I can do that in my account.

Have you tried using the group policy editor as outlined here: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art.../winxpgpe.html

Hi,

I've tried that now, but unfortunately it didn't work. I still have the logon box in Luna style.
I also tried deleting the Luna style itself, but Windows just recreates the files.

I'm sorry RJ nothing is working. I assume you have tried Statica's suggestion also and that didn't work either, well this is the last resort that I have been able to find for you at this time but don't give up. Here is the site that I found http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=44566 scroll down to Post #10 and see if this is what you're looking for. The site itself is pretty cool you might find other things on there that strike your fancy. As always keep us posted this one has caught my interest now

@codered6651

Sorry, I just must have overlooked your post. I digged up my thread coz finally I've found the way to do it, and now I see your post here. Thank you for the link, I'll take a look there, too, to see other nice modifications for XP.

The solution to my problem is this:
http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofivers...p/t140542.html

Luna style is now gone
Changing the colors and sizes of window elements was pretty easy, only involved copying two registry keys (colors and windowmetrics) from current_user to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT.

Now finally I have the logon box the way I want

Glad to hear that all is well. I copied this just in case I might want to have a little change of pace.
