How to import Outlook 2000 to 2003?
I just installed Outlook 2003 on a newly built computer with XP Home. I made a CD copy of my Outlook 2000 files, outlook.pst, from the old computer running W2K and tried to use if as the source for importing using the Outlook 2003 Wizard. The erroe message told me that "File access denied. You do not have the perfission to access the file D:\outlook.pst".
Does this have something to do with the 'name' of the two computers being different or what? Geeze, I acutally purchased Office 2003 to get Outlook 2003 so I could run it and use it to export to Mozilla thunderbird. Thunderbird wants to run a wizard to import from Outlook 2003 but I cannot get 2003 current. Alternatively, I could go and install Thunderbird on the old machine and import from my Outlook 2000. But, then I need to figure out how to get that file over to the new machine and import it. Any ideas here, please? Thanks, Al

Copy the outlook.pst file to the hard drive, then remove the read only attribute and import it. You can't import a read only .pst file, and the process of burning it to the CD made it read only. If that still doesn't work, log in as administrator in safe mode and give everyone full control of the file.

I cannot say for sure that the change in attrigutes made a difference. I may have managed to miss the appropriate choice from the Import List, personal folder .pst. Not all is well, I believe since I see my stuff! Thanks very much for the push in the right direction. Al |
