start up program

I'm probably having a real basic question here.Does somebody can tell me how to close application that start automaticaly when XP is starting and that appear on the bottom right near the clock.

Start --> Run type "msconfig" (w/o the quotes). Click the "startup" tab. Programs that startup on boot are listed there, you can uncheck them to keep them from automatically starting.

Even better, download a program like WinPatrol (Google it), that will allow you to manage startup programs, and will alert you whenever a new program schedules itself to load on boot.

I use the msconfig method and refer to a couple of sites to tell which running programs are needed and which aren't.
