Unhappy New win2k & PartitionMagic problems

I just built a computer for a friend and had everything she wanted installed and then she decided she wanted the 80gig drive partitioned. Ok, no biggie I thought.

I set it to partition C: to 30gig which left 46gig on logical drive E:. When I went to reboot it started the partitioning process, got to 100% of repartioning C: and then came up with a Batch error. Now I can't do anything with it. I did make the PM rescue disks initially but when I go to run them I get "Bad or missing command interpreter" and don't know what to do there. I also tried a win2k fast repair but it does not find that win2k is installed. If left to boot normally win2k blue screens with "inaccessible boot device."

Is there anything I can try here without having to start all over and reinstall the OS and all the other sw that I had put my time into?

Specs: Win2k sp4, NTFS file system (the original install as well as attemped partitions) and Partition Magic 7.0.

Thanks for your replies.

You may have a hardware problem - a fresh start may be the best way to go - and run diags on the ram and the hard drive. I'd probably zero out the drive before attempting a reinstall.

Thanks glc. Everything was working just fine on the system before I ran PM. It has a WD 800JB and mushkin 512 PC3200 in it running on an MSI 661FM-L with a 2.53 Celly.
