win98 D drive not accessible
Hello
One of my friend got a new dell computer for us with windows98 on it, their are only 2 drives in HDD of that computer, C: and D:. Iam not able to access D: on that computer ,when ever I try to access it ,I get an error messege stating something like this: " D drive is not accessible" Retry, Iam sorry I dont remember the exact error messege but It stated something like what I have just mentioned. I think the reason why Iam getting this messege is because D: is being used as CD drive? Do I have to reformat the entire H.DD and install windows98 all over again from the beginning or I can settle this problem without installation? Please guide me Regards, |

Go into My Computer and it will show you IF there are two Hard Drives installed in that system. But since it was a store bought system (DELL), then my guess is there is only one HDD in the system. And the error you are getting is because you don't have a CD or DVD in the optical drive. Manufacturers very rarely if ever install two HDD's.

It is a sealed pack branded (DELL)desktop computer, but what does having more than one HDD in a computer has to do with this error messege? Can you please explicitly explain this. I was also guessing what you have guessed that the cause of error messege might be because the D:drive has CD drive enabled on it. Regards, |

it may also be possible that that is actually a partition on the hard drive and it contains all the recovery software for the computer, and is acessed by the program for making the recover install cd's for all the software on the system
reading the instruction manual should explain how to do this, if in fact that is what it is. after making the cd's you will be able to remove the partition so you will have full acess to the full sixe of the drive. |

Iam sorry for the mistake, I have rechecked that same computer, the CD drive is actually enabled on E: not on D:
Any way I have solved the problem, I formated the D: drive and scanned it through out, meaning the files and folders including the surface of the drive. Thanks for your advises Regards, |
