98se shutdown issue
Recently I upgraded my wife's laptop from Win 95 to Win 98se. Most everything went fine except that now when we go to shutdown it hangs at the last Windows screen. On win 95 it would shut off soon after this screen now it seems to hang indefinitely and has to be shut off manually. The laptop is an IBM Thinkpad 600. Thank you!

Did you upgrade using a Win98se "Upgrade" version CD? If so, you may want to check over on the IBM website (if you haven't already) for updated Win98se drivers for the hardware.
There are also several Shutdown Troubleshooters that are pretty good. Windows itself includes one (check in the "Help" files), and the one at aumha.org is often-recommended ( http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm ) Best of luck . . . Gary |

May be a long shot in this case, but this has worked for me on two computers running Win 98. Go to Start> Run> type msconfig. Click Advanced button on General tab of System Configuration Utility and check Disable Fast Shutdown.
