smokin Possible solution 4 Windows Update trouble with WinXP

I don't know why Windows Update was unable to scan my computer. I tried the recommended proceedure (check that apllicable services such as Automatic Updates is turned on) to no avail, and Microsoft Customer Service wasn't particularly helpful.
I did however, obtain this advise from someone more knowledgable than myself, and it worked for me (please note: I do not know what these commands are - only that thay fixed the problem for me):

Click start
Run
In the open box type..
net.exe stop wuauserv

repeat same steps for the following commands

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv
