cant adjust vertical/horizontal sizing

Just finished fresh install of Win XP-prof edition.

Altering the desktop icon horizontal or vertical spacing does nothing-- (ie r click on desktop> properties>appearance>advanced>horiz or vertical spacing)

Have properties set to "auto arrange"/ "align to grid"/ icon display as "modified".

Have same problem with three other fresh xp installations!

seems as if something is locked??

suggestions!

many TX-

I think you might want to reread the question. How do monitor controls affect icon spacing? That's a Windows thing.
