ms dos error message

Hi,everyone.
I was trying to install WinMe on an old Compact p3 when I encountered this problem.The installation failed with this error message : Standard mode , error outside MSdos extender( or something like that with a lot of numbers) Could anyone tell me the meaning of this message, pls?

Those numbers would help narrow down your problem, if you can, post them.

The exact explaination in the KB article is:
This error message occurs when the fault handler dispatcher in DOSX.EXE generates another cascaded fault while trying to handle a protected-mode exception.

In plain english it means an error caused a bigger error.

The items in the blue field in the KB link are some of the possibilities. It can be many things. Try to post the numbers.

Seems most likely you have problems with himem.sys, I would suspect you have defective memory or an incompatible match between both memory sticks. Try removing one DIMM (memory stick) and re-run setup to see if problem persists. If it does, try again with the the other DIMM. You may be able to weed out the bad DIMM.

Edit: If you have two sticks that is, if you only have one you will have to find a replacement stick to test with.

Rightcoast, you're on target , bro. It seems there 's a pair of ram in the rig and liked you said they didn't liked each other.When I tested/used them one by one,the error disappeared.
