HELP Please ...
I have installed windows for years .. starting with 3.1 all the way to XP-Pro but I have never got the error I ran into today. First I fdisk the HD and the MBR. Then I let my Win 98SE-Plus CD format the HD. It started the install but after checking the drive for errors (which it found NONE) ... it came back with these two message: #1. Standard Mode: Fault Outside of MS-DOS Extender (along with 16 code dumps all in Hexadecimal) #2. Standard Mode: Fault in MS-DOS Extender (along with 16 more code dumps from the same places but different HEX codes.) I have tried everything I can think of to fix this problem but still every time I restart the install I get the same results with exactly the same error and code dumps. Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated .. this PC belongs to my Great-Nephew and he needs it for school work. If you need more info please write me and I will send it ... just let me know what kind of info you need and where I can locate it ... mich54@grapevine.net Thank You, Micheal |

Here are the Hex code dumps from the errors listed above:
#1. Standard Mode: Fault Outside of MS-DOS Extender EC=0000 CS=0397 IP=74D0 AX=0000 BX=03A7 CX=FFFC DX=03A7 SI=2AC2 DI=468B BP=0FB0 DS=0397 ES=0387 SS=027F SP=0F94 #2. Standard Mode: Fault in MS-DOS Extender. EC=02E4 CS=0053 IP=20C2 AX=02D8 BX=02E0 CX=0096 DX=0000 SI=2221 DI=0000 BP=0000 DS=004B ES=0098 SS=004B SP=00EA This is a PC I built years ago for my sister ... it is running an EPOX EP-MVP4A MB, with on board video & sound, but I have a PCI Video Card installed with 16MB V-Ram, an AMD K2 450MHz CPU (socket 7 style), 2 HDs #1=3.2GB WD #2= 20GB WD, Base Ram=640K Extended Ram=154624K all three SD Ram slots are full, Zip-100 internal Zip Drive, UMDA 33 52K CD-Drive, Cirrus 56K ISA Modem, AOpen PCI EtherNet Adapter Card. It was running very slow, but it was running earlier today, before I decided to wipe the Main HD and reinstall Win 98SE-Plus ... so I can't really understand why the memory would have failed. I usually wipe and reinstall windows on this PC a couple times a year because my sister & her son are on line a lot and get a lot of SPY and AD-Ware from trying out all the latest stuff on the Internet. They do have a good Virus Program but like I said they try every new thing they run across while surfing the net .. go figure ... They understand this isn't the best thing but until now all I ever had to do was wipe and reinstall and they were up and running again just like new. I hope this additional info helps ... like I previously said any suggestions or tips will be greatly appreciated. |

I solved this yesterday for someone...Did you try the ideas in the thread I linked to? You have to try it before discounting it.
