i heard from a friend that you can link two computers together there xp with out a router and copy info from this, but you need the other persons ip address, is that true, and if it is, what is an ip address(i think its internet provider address but not sure) and if it is where do i find it and what tool lets you do that on xp

Not quite sure what you're asking here. Are you talking about just connecting the two PCs directly with each other or over the internet?
If you want to connect two computers together without a router, you can get a cross-over cable and connect the computers together via the NICs (ethernet ports). But I've never done this before and don't what you need to do on the OS side. You're not talking about Remote Control are you? Where you can remotely control another computer over the internet.
