Freeze up on login leads to probs

hi, i had a problem the other day when my internet crashed, i pressed restart on my computer as ctrl-alt-del didnt work. When i got back to the login screen, i entered my password and it said "loading personnal settings" and just froze! So i booted from the windows xp disc and did a chkdsk /r command, didnt help, so i did fixboot and fixmbr as well. Now it gets into windows, but it only has about 5 icons, and i cant access stuff on my hard drive, not even stuff from cds or anything, if i want to use windows media player, for instance, it will bring up the installation window, but not install when i click next, its all rather bizarre, i did a windows re-install, but has done nothing. What can i do??
