Reinstall IE6?

Let me see if I can get all details straight...

I've to fix this PC (not getting paid for it, so no rush hehe) and the issue is trying to run iexplore.exe does nothing. It doesnt even create the process in memory. I figure spyware and its redirecting stuff might be causing it and cleaned it out. Tons of it as expected. It seems to be clean now but IE still doesnt work. This is an XP Home box.

I setup Firefox and it connects fine. Tried to d/l the IE6 installer but says "A newer version already installed". I went into the registry like the microsoft KB says and changed the "IsInstalled" value to 0. That is recognized correctly because on reboot the OS says "IE is not installed, wanna clean the personal settings?" but it still gives me the "already installed" error.

Anyways... I also tried reinstalling SP2, downloaded the huge 200MB or whatever it was and still nothing. Im not exactly sure how to fix it. I dont have a XP Home CD. Let me know if anyone has any ideas. Thanks.

doing a install repaire is one way to fix it.
running sfc may be another way to fix it

install repaire would require you to reinstall the service packs and patches after it done.

I am going to say no to that one, there is differant files in the pro disk and may not work correctly, you should use the same cd that is installed on the system
