Playing my video file

Hello,
I shot a 20 second film clip with my digital camera and I can play it on my computer at home but when I e-mailed the file to my work computer it won't play. I get this message indows Media Player encountered an unknown error. What can I do to play this file at work?

I have Windows Media Player 9 on both computers. My home computer is ME and work compter is 2000 professional.
Thanks,
Steven

Welcome to PC Mech!!

Do you have a DVD ROM in your home system and not at work? I've found that DVD ROM software (like WinDVD and the like) seems to install codecs and "plugins" that allows you to play a larger variance in file encoding, although I'm not sure why that is.

If you have it, try installing DVD ROM software at work as well. Assuming that this is the reason, hopefully it will install the codecs you need to play the file with WMP.

Hope this helps a bit,
Stryker

No I do not have a DVD drive in my home computer. Is there a place to look on my computer to find all the codecs? If I can do that then I can copy those codecs over to my work computer.

Figured it Out

For whatever reason the entire file did not download. The file was suppose to be 2.81 MB but I noticed the file was 1.9 MB. So I downloaded it again and now it plays.
