New build-(my first, so be gentle!!) Asus P4R800V-Deluxe, Seagate 200gb Sata, Win MCE 2005.
Have drive partitioned and formatted w\sys, hangs on boot to C:. Windows install says no drives recognized, wants a driver disc on floppy, wont read mobo CD. Mobo CD has driver updates on it which install under windows.Booting on mobo CD installs Freedos on a virtual A and can't run Setup. SOOO, as I see it, I can install the mobo drivers under windows, but I can't install windows without the drivers.hehehe BOOM! (sorry my head just exploded). Looked to copy mscdex.exe to a boot floppy, Winhelp says no longer supported. Flashed latest bios, no help. Seagate says SATA drives don't need drivers, update the chipset. Chipset update is 7 meg, kinda big for a floppy. Any Ideas? Thanx!!! |

There should be a floppy diskmaker on the motherboard CD for the SATA drivers needed to install Windows. What's needed easily fits on one floppy.

OK, Four days of no sleep, FINALLY!!! Went ahead and set up a RAID0 with two 80 giggerz, Found the floppymaker and got the raid controller loaded. No luck. While making my Ebay ad for "Pile-O-Parts" went back to scanning mobo CD and found another makefloppy for the raid/IDE driver. Figgered WTH and loaded both drivers and WE HAVE WINDOWS!! Turns out this is also the SATA controller! Thanx GLC, for getting me pointed in the right direction, you guys are GREAT!!!!
